The President of ICMSA, Jackie Cahill, has extended to the family of Eddie Phillips, who died yesterday in an accident on the family farm in Westmeath, the sympathies of the association's membership. Mr Cahill, who is due to speak today at the Farm Safety Conference in Athy, said that Mr Phillips' tragic death had brought the number of fatal accidents on farms this year to the truly shocking figure of 18. "Our mindsets must change and we, as farmers, must realise that our own safety and wellbeing is paramount. There is no point in taking any kind of risks that might result in serious injury or even death. We simply have to force ourselves to think, act and work 'safer' because these figures are deeply alarming and saddening. All our thoughts are with Mr Phillips' family this morning", stated Mr Cahill
Ends 18 August 2010.
