ICMSA President, John Comer, noted that that large numbers of farmers are now heading into their third day without power for their milking parlours and anxiety is growing about when electricity supplies will be restored. ICMSA President, John Comer, said that while dairy farmers were not in any way presenting themselves as a special case they did need to know when supplies would be restored in the event of them need to locate or hire generators to power their parlours and so milk their cows. Mr Comer said that while he understood the pressures the ESB was under it was pointless referring farmers without power to website updates. What was required, according to Mr Comer, was a regular and location-specific schedule to be announced on national and local radio stations and in papers that were more accessible to people and would allow people – particularly dairy farmers – to work out what their next steps should be.
