The President of ICMSA, John Comer,  said the BSE test results announced on the evening of Thursday 25 June are as positive as both farmers and officials could have hoped for and a further testament to the seriousness with which Ireland approached the question of the health of our national herd. Mr Comer said that the tests now demonstrated that the affected animal was, effectively, a ‘one-off’ and that meant that Ireland should had a very strong case to keep its ‘clear’ status when the international body charged with adjudication on this matter next met. The ICMSA President said that the Department and its officials were to be congratulated on the speed and transparency with which they dealt with every aspect of the matter and the matter could now be concluded by offering the affected farm family every assistance.

Ends         26 June 2015.
