Mr. Pat Mc Cormack, Deputy President of ICMSA has called on Minister Coveney to immediately address the ongoing problems with payments for individual applicants that have either entered a Private Contract Clause, Partnership or Company structure. These payments are now eight weeks late with farmers beginning to experience extreme financial hardship, particularly as we approach the Christmas period.
Mr. Mc Cormack stated that we have a totally unacceptable situation whereby these farmers are being told week after week that their payment will be processed and paid but to-date very few have seen any payment. He went on to say that the Minister is quick to point out the high percentage of farmers that have received their payments and Mr. Mc Cormack acknowledges that fact but said “this is of little consolation to the many farmers still waiting for money to hit their account”. The Department has made a specific point of encouraging partnership farming and it is disgraceful the treatment they are receiving at present.
In conclusion, Mr. Mc Cormack stated that these payments must be processed immediately and farmers must see money in their accounts before Christmas. Financial pressure is building on many farms and the recent poor weather which has resulted in flooding in many areas is adding to what was an already stressful situation.ENDS.
